Army Major Hannah Jackson knows where the skeletons are hidden at the Pentagon and now she’s been tasked with keeping the secrets of Army Special Sci Ops Unit 69—the Wolves—and their secret is a doozy. That a civilian corporation wants to exploit the Wolves is a matter of pressing concern.

Sergeant Major Ian McIntire doesn’t trust Hannah as far as he can throw her—and that’s quite a ways considering he’s an alpha werewolf. The woman is a pain in his butt and with the Blood Moon coming, the unit needs to complete their mission and get home before tempers flare. While she might know most of their secrets, the one she doesn’t know about the moonstruck Wolf might just get them all killed.

When a covert operation goes wrong, Mac must trust Hannah to save his men—and his heart. Secrets, lies, and betrayals are more personal under the full moon, but when a Wolf loves a woman, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

Warning Pursue an alpha Wolf at your own risk. Hot sex, bad words, and action of the blood and guts kind will ensue.

Blood Moon Moonstruck Book 1 edition by Silver James Literature Fiction eBooks

This novella started off so well...and then went to total shite. In the beginning we're introduced to sexy Alpha among Alphas, Mac and the sexy, capable, strong-willed Hannah. Everything was looking good. I was loving the narrative predominantly from Mac's POV and thrilled to be reading about a heroine who was competing on par and impressing all the type A, military men. You go girl!

Then about 25% through the book the sexual tension cranked up and Hannah's IQ dropped by about 50 points, as did her sense of balance and calm. All of a sudden she was scared and crying every 10 minutes, stumbling over tree roots (where before Mac had been impressed with her ability to soldier on unaided), and bordering on hysterics for all of the rest of the story. And no, for the record, just because he tells her repeatedly that she's strong and resilient doesn't actually make her so. It's condescending and pat.

I get that she had a bit of a shock. Totally get that. But why did she have to become so very weak in order for his masculinity to come through? He would still have been plenty manly even if she didn't fall to pieces. I sure didn't see any of the men crying over a little gun fight.

The story also felt very much like the middle of a longer piece. There is obvious history with Hannah and her job with the military and the Wolves' need to rescue Torjak. Then there is a lot left unexplored on the return to Virginia. Not once did Mac and Hannah manage a normal, rational conversation about their future. I would have liked to know how that was addressed.

I had a hard time looking past hannah's crumbling facade. It ruined the story for me. But I did find that I liked the writing style a lot. The POVs shifted a bit too quickly at times, but that was easily looked over. I also thought the basic structure of the world Silver James created was interesting. It was only thinly sketched out, but I saw the possibility of some entertaining future books in it. I'd be willing to give another one of her stories a shot.

Blood Moon Moonstruck Book 1 edition by Silver James Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I love when I trip onto a book and get blasted out of my seat in the reading. Blood Moon was a complete surprise. I bought this book strictly off of the cover because, really, who wouldn't? Inside was a sexy, fast paced story. Alpha males, spunky heroine, and military intrigue - all for a buck! Best bang for my buck in a long time. My only complaint? Way too short. I devoured Blood Moon while making dinner. Now, Ms. James, give me more.
An unusual shifter tale where they're a Special Ops pack in the army. Mac is all Alpha ( a Sergeant Major) & finds his mate while on a mission. Only one real sex scene but it's hot enough to carry the entire story... book.... world! Major Hannah was realistic in her questions.... ones most people would ask about another species. How they find their mojo is worth the reading! Hoping the others in the series go on sale or are grouped into a boxed set.
With her background in military and police areas, Silver James writes a true and lively story to kick off her Moonstruck series. I enjoyed this first book in the series as an entry winner in this year's IDA contest. It kept me up til past midnight the first night. Books rarely can make me stay up so late. ) Thanks, Silver! I'll be reading the other books, which I've already purchased. Congrats on a nicely deserved win!
I really liked the beginning of this tale. The men were hot, alpha, and military, some of my favorite characters out there. The female MC was strong, capable, and determined. Yay! But what kept this from being a 5 star review was the head-hopping after the second chapter. And once the characters had sex, the female MC lost all her strength, capability, and determination. I wondered where the "take-no-shit" Major had gone. Fortunately, Ms. James is a strong enough storyteller to allow me to enjoy the book even with those difficulties (for me). It's a great beginning to the series and I've already started reading the next one.
This is the first book I've read by Silver James. I read the description, and decided it's worth reading for $0.99, The author did a good job introducing the 2 main characters in the first part of the book. Then she tried to cover too much ground, introducing too many ideas and characters. The book ended and it felt unfinished, like there should have been at least another 100 pages.

I like authors who develop themes and have recurring characters over several books, like Linsay Sands' Argeneau vampires, Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern and Fern Michaels's Sisterhood, so I'll probably buy the rest of the series and hope the author wraps up all the loose ends.
This made for the perfect afternoon read. It's a fast paced 82 pages of some serious sexual tension. A touch of erotic in my sense (not lots of sex here, but plenty of lust) Story was exciting and held my interest. I wasn't a fan of the ending, but I expect other books in this series to add more closure/details of Mac and Hannah's status.

I would ideally rate this a 4.5 star book, but I'm going to round it up to a 5 star review on since I got this as a freebie at the time.

How much did I pay free
Would I recommend for a freebie, or low price buy absolutely
Will I read more by this writer yes
This is the first in the Moonstruck series and we get a glimpse of some of the characters that will be in the next upcoming books. With Blood Moon however, I really liked Hannah, who tries so hard to appear strong and one of the boys all the while trying to ignore her attraction of Ian who is in charge of the mission. Hannah knows they are really an elite force of werewolves working for the pentagon but still doesn't know all there is to know about the wolves themselves. Ian is a strong Alpha male who is used to not having humans along for the ride and believes Hannah is there to shut down his unit. Having a full moon coming doesn't help their attraction to one another and complicates things especially when they realize that all is not what they thought it was with their mission. The unit seems to be set up for some reason. It's a nice read and I liked getting to know some of the characters too.
